Gwau

'Roeddwn yn arfer gwau yn draddodiadol gyda gweill, ac wedi gwau llawer i ddilladyn yn y gorffennol, o sanau i sgarff, o "leg warmers" i gardigan aran gyda cebl lan y tu blaen a'r llewys, ond gyda gwaethygu o'm iechyd roeddwn yn methu gwau rhagor. Roedd dal y gweill i fyny digon hir i wau un rhes yn galed, ac yn amhosibl y funud rhoedd mwy na dwy neu dair o rhesi wedi gwau gan fod yr ychydig bwysau ychwanegol yn gwneud fy mreichiau yn dost yn gyflym iawn.

Yna fe welais yr "Authentic Knitting Board" yn cael eu arddangos ar y sianel crefftio ar y teledu!

Mae yn dal yn wau gyda llaw, yn lapio rownd o edafedd a gollwng o hen pwyth dros dolen newydd, ond mae'r dolennau yn cael eu dal ar hoelon back ar y bwrdd, ac mae'r bwrdd yn gorwedd ar fy glin ne ar draws breichiau cadair freichiau, felli nid oes yn rhaid dal y gwau i fyny i weithio arno, dim ond troi y cyfan o amgylch yn achlysurol. Ac nid oes ots os oes rhaid gadael y cyfan yng nghanol rhes, nid yw'r dolennau yn mynd i unman.

Ac yna, ar ôl gwneud hetiau, a sgarffiau, a parau o sliperi, ar yr "Authentic Knitting Board" fe sylweddolais fod "Knitting Looms" eraill ar gael, gan gynnwys rhai cylch. A gan fod yr hoelion neu pegiau y gwahanol fyrddau yn wahanol faint gyda bwlch maint gwahanol rhyngddynt, mae yn bosibl gwau gwahanol mathau o edafedd. Felli 'rwyf nawr yn arbrofi gyda gwahanol edafedd yn gwneud sgarffiau a bagiau. Ac nid yn unig fi, ond mae'r aelodau ifancaf o'r teulu, i lawr i pum mlwydd oed yn hapus yn defnyddio'r byrddau gwau yn gwau sgarffiau i'w tegannau.

Knitting

I use to knit the traditional way with knitting needles, and I've knit many a piece of clothing in the past, from socks to scarves, from leg warmers to an aran cardigan with cable detail up the front and sleaves, but with the worsoning of my health it became impossible to knit any more. Holding the needles up for long enough to knit one row was difficult, and it was totally impossible to do once more than two or three rows had been knitted as the very little extra weight made my arms very painful very quickly.

Then I saw the "Authentic Knitting Board" being displayed on the crafting chanel on the TV!

It's still hand knitting, with wrapping round of yarn and dropping of old stitch over new loop, but the stitches are held on nails on the board, and the board rests either on my lap or accross the arms of an arm chair, therefore there's no need to hold the knitting up to work on it, only turn the lot around at the end of each row. And it doesn't matter if I have to leave everything at the middle of a row, the stitches don't go anywhere.

And then, after making hats, and scarves, and pairs of knitted slippers, on the Authentic Knitting Board I realized that there were other "Knitting Looms" available, including round ones. And because the nails or pegs on the different boards are different sized with a different gap between them, it's possible to knit different types of yarn on them. Therefore I'm now experimenting with different yarns, making scarves and bags. And not only me, but the youngest members of the family, down to the five year old, are happy using the smaller looms to knit scarves for their toys.
